Toto was expanding production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Toto believed that North America as a growth market for Washlet bidets and toilets, as opposed to its "base" markets of Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words so that the next generation could understand the words. However, many of the words were being replaced by foreign words, such as dui, which is Bengali for verandah.
Origins
Established in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic growth. In the early years of its existence, the company produced products to meet the demands of new, modern urban housing. It used the first tunnel kilns in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and a more consistent production.
In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began expanding overseas in order to take advantage of sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other products from other manufacturers to complement its own range of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the firm’s global market share.
In the late 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis on research and development of household appliances that use water. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve customers and improve profit. The company adopted a just-in-time approach to managing its supply chain, and it used the same method in its sales strategy. This resulted in a higher level of customer satisfaction.
Toto continued to develop toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for instance, has a strong tornado flush that is more ecologically friendly than conventional toilets. The company makes use of recycled water for its manufacturing process, and has a green purchasing policy. Apart from toilets, Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs and hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than typical models.
The first Toto museum opened in 2015. It has exhibitions on Toto's most famous products, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made of ceramics), the history of plumbing, and even bath units. In a separate gallery you can see Toto products that are sold throughout. The museum houses a bathroom with a washbasin and other toilet innovations.
Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group performed session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography
You would expect a group with a name such as Asia to be a prog band however it's actually a pretty straightforward rock band. The group started out as a group and released two albums - 1979's self-titled debut album, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. Although the band have a diverse musical background their biggest breakthrough was in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a massive blockbuster, but it was not without its difficulties. The record companies put the band under pressure to deliver the top single or they would drop the album. Toto was able to achieve this with the help from the hit song "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience since the members had been session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior the group. Their sonic signature has since become the standard for pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.
The album begins with a hefty dose of hard rock, with songs such as Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly build their hooks into you. The album also contains jazzier, slower tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations. This song mixes folk and the distorted AOR, which should appear completely unnatural, but actually is very effective.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to wane. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career and the band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the wake of drug charges and the group continued to perform as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Despite the turbulence, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. The band was able to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked Toto's final lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Keyboardist David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate and less cloying than on previous recordings.
After touring to promote their album, the band recorded the band's Amsterdam live show which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. It was the first album by the band that did not include a single song with the word "A" in the title, and it also contained one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was not a commercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that affected his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes along with the other original members of Asia - Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of officially reforming the band. This lineup, minus Howe (who was a member of Yes at the time) was eventually referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
